Very Telling

Rep. Pete Hoekstra, the Michigan Republican who chairs the House Intelligence Committee and a strong supporter of the administration, said these things this morning:

  • The U.S. Congress "simply should not have to play 'Twenty Questions' to get the information that it deserves under our Constitution."
  • The lack of disclosure possibly constituted a "breach of responsibility by the administration, a violation of the law, and, just as importantly, a direct affront to me and the members of this committee who have so ardently supported efforts to collect information on our enemies."
  • "I take it very, very seriously otherwise I would not have written the letter to the president,"

When Republicans this high up start complaining about the illegal activities of this President, it means one of two things: 1.) the illegal activity is much worse than anyone expected or 2.) Republicans are trying to look like they're doing their jobs and providing the oversight they've blown off for almost 6 years.

In either case, the President is clearly perceived to be very weak.
