Republican Gameplan
You've got to see the memo here to believe your eyes. In summary, it details ways in which the Republicans hope to hold Congress through the midterm elections by:
I pray they fail. We need to divide this government. Unchecked power has gone to the heads of these people worse than anything I've ever seen in my lifetime. If the Administration can't deal with a little oversight, what does that tell you about their ability to lead? Reagan succeeded with a Democratic Congress. Clinton fought the war in the Balkans with a Republican Congress.
Let's hope the American people are smarter about the political games this time around. The hole we're in could get a lot deeper in two years.
- Exploiting 9/11. The two page memo mentions 9/11 seven times. It describes debating Iraq in the context of 9/11 as “imperative.”
- Attacking opponents ad hominem. The memo describes those who opposes President Bush’s policies in Iraq as “sheepish,” “weak,” and “prone to waver endlessly.”
- Creating a false choice. The memo says the decision is between supporting President Bush’s policies and hoping terrorist threats will “fade away on their own.”
