Don't Change the Debate, End It

King George keeps doing all sorts of things in our name. He was enabled by Congresses granting of war powers via a force resolution. Many there now say they never meant to give Bush a "gold card" but he's clearly taken what they gave him and run with it... Now Congress should stop him!

Folks, we're not at war anymore. Oh, sure, we still have soldiers in Iraq but the war was when our tanks were rolling in and the bombs were falling. We're now occupying a country we defeated, end of story. The Congress ought to pass a resolution declaring an end to hostilities (aka. victory) and, in doing so, an end to Bush's ability to use the endless "war on terra" as an excuse to do all sorts of un-American things in the name of America.

I don't know exactly what that resolution needs to say. I can tell you that there will need to be a second resolution on the same day that spells out, in specific detail, what Congress is funding as to the continued occupation of and rebuilding of Iraq. It will also need to spell out what they're paying for to cover the continuing costs associated with terrorism. Those costs, as John Kerry said, need to be framed as costs of LAW ENFORCEMENT and espionage.

Allowing Bush to define the terms of this debate allows him to fight dirty on ground where he's comfortable. Sun Tzu would say we need to change the terrain of the battle. Let's roll.
