Administration Death Spiral

Apparently, Attorney General Alberto Gonzalez, FBI director Robert Mueller and several others threatened to quit over their botched raid on Congressman Jefferson. Bush sealed the records seized for 45 days in an attempt to find some way to wiggle out of this mess. It seems the Congress gets upset when their constitutional rights and privileges get trampled (even though the Republican majority doesn't care about the constitutional rights of the citizens they represent.)

Now look, I'm not going to defend Jefferson. He's dirty and belongs in jail. But anything and everything that Bush touches turns to shit and that trend continues. His incompetence knows no bounds in that now he's got an Attorney General who doesn't seem to be able to follow 200+ years of precedent. Other crooked members of Congress have been taken down without this type of sloppiness.

Ask yourself why Gonzalez felt empowered to do what he did. The answer is obvious, he's accustomed to ignoring all of the rules because his bosses in the Whitehouse have given new meaning to the "means being justified by the ends". The two problems here: There are laws against the things they're doing and most of the time, the results simply don't materialize.
