The Oilmen in the Whitehouse

Boy are they mad at their oil company buddies! Well, at least they're pretending to be. Just wait until the summer crunch that drove prices up to $3 a gallon last year pushes the price up to $4 or $5 this summer. Maybe the Bush Administration shouldn't have let the oil companies write their energy policy... Just a thought. Bit 'em in the ass, didn't it?

The one good that may come from this: It may push people impacted by high gas prices to the polls in November. That means people of middle class or lower and that generally means the Dems, despite their flaws, may have a shot at getting that one house of Congress we need them to take. Angst over gasoline prices, the thought that our private conversations are being listened to without warrant, a Hispanic backlash, terrible news out of Iraq and an apparent plan to invade yet another country in the Middle East: This may just be enough to wake up the American People.

I'm not holding my breath, though. The Republicans will probably trot out gay marriage and get the 51% they need. A lot of the country is Red for a reason. But even Red States prefer cheap gas.
