Where's McCain?

I'd always assumed we'd see McCain vs. the best Democrat. This was comforting because I believe the country has seen what radicals like Bush can do to it. Since I perceive McCain to be a moderate, I'd be happy regardless of the winner, particularly if the Dems find a way to take back control of Congress.

But then I see this. It seems the moderate branch of the Republican party is shrinking (if it still exists at all.) If a man like McCain is drawing just over 4% of the vote in this poll, we're doomed. Bush's personal ass-wiper, Frist, is leading the pack. I guess these folks are actually happy with the state of things.

Hotline Straw Poll
Candidate - Percentage

Bill Frist - 36.9%
Mitt Romney - 14.4%
George Allen - 10.3%
Pres. Bush - 10.3%
John McCain - 4.6%
