Howard Dean, Right All Along

Excellent post here.

Now, allow me to be the first to admit I was one of those who favored Kerry over Dean from the beginning. I was hopeful the American People would see the value of having an American War Hero lead them during wartime. Instead, they chose to stick with Bush the draft dodger. Instead, the slime machine that is the Karl Rove branch of the Republican Party was able to use the Swift Boat folks to do their dirty work. The result is we now have ourselves deeper into a terrible situation and there simply isn't a plan for repairing the damage done.

The worst thing about it is, with Bush in power for 3 more years, I expect circumstances to spiral into an abyss from which we'll never escape. Those who ignored the obvious, that Bush is a foolish idiot, are to blame for this situation. And while many are saying finger pointing isn't going to help; I feel compelled to throw out one huge

I TOLD YOU SO!
It may not solve anything but it sure makes me feel a lot better as I sit here on a Sunday morning and contemplate:

  • This President has eroded basic American principles of privacy
  • This President has broken the law repeatedly
  • This President went to war by mistake
  • This President has destroyed our ability to lead the world
  • This President has made torture an American policy
  • This President has spied on Americans
  • This President gave American ports to the UAE
  • This President played guitar while New Orleans drowned
  • This President trusts Dick Cheney

And he has three more years. Pray to God the Democrats take Congress. They may not be much better than the Republicans on many things but they WILL control Bush.

Those who voted for Bush sold their souls to the devil and he's collecting now.

While I only disagree with one of those statements (the right to privacy has been eroded for years by both parties) I do not think that the Democrats represent a viable alternative to the Bush administration.

Furthermore, and this is more depressing in a way, they will not be able to take control of the congress. People are angry. People feel cheated. However, Democratic Party continues to simply say "vote for us... we're not George W.". That is simply not enough to invigorate people to change direction.

Like them or hate them, the 1994 Republicans had the right idea. They had a plan. They told people exactly what they stood for as opposed to what they stood against. There is a distinction and it is huge. Unfortunately, the Democratic Party is mired in saying the following things:
1) Bush lied.
2) Bush lied.
3) Did we tell you Bush lied?

Alright, I get the point. What's next? That is where the Democrats are failing. Some thing immediate pull out (this is a bad idea). Some think phased pull out (this is a murky idea). Some say finish the job (not very palatable when you entered the mess because the Commander in Chief failed to do his job properly, but better than cutting and running).

Want to know why Clinton won and Kerry lost? Look at what they said. Clinton did not say, amid the recession of the early 1990s, that "I am not Bush". He said, here's how we're going to fix the economy. Kerry did the opposite. He said, effectively, "Bush lied, vote for me."

Too bad Bartlett is a fictional character.

I don't disagree Bell. The Dems may not have the best candidate for President in 2008. That's OK. I'm more interested in 2006 and at taking away Bush's cheerleadering squad.

A more rational Republican President in 2008 will be welcome. I hope the Dems get their shit together but frankly, anything is better than Bush.

And I think Howard Dean says what he believes in. Although he may be an easy guy to beat in 2008 for that very reason.

The Dems need to find a smooth talking Southern Governer...
