Vietnam was a lesson learned, or so we thought. And we fought a number of battles and accepted a number of evils in the name of the greater good during the cold war. But having learned the lesson, having defeated the greater evil, what can be said of this blunder?
Kennedy faced photographic evidence of Soviet Missiles in Cuba and was told to launch a nuclear first strike by his closest advisors. He put his thinking cap on and came up with a better answer. Where would the world be today if George W. Bush had sat in JFK's chair at that time?
Four years and three months have passed since 9/11. When nearly the same had passed after Pearl Harbor our real enemy had been punished and defeated. Along the way we helped end a genocide in Europe.
In this case, our real enemy is laughing at us while we've spent our efforts removing HIS ENEMY from power in Iraq. Along the way we've spent nearly a half trillion dollars and we've lost over 2,100 of our soldiers. Meanwhile we've decimated our world relationships and destroyed any possible hope we ever had of being considered a partner or honest broker for peace in the Middle East.
There's currently about 1/3rd of this country that still positively rates Bush. What could they possibly be thinking? What are their expectations for a President?
