Anti-Republicans, Listen Up

In reading many of the blogs I provide links to on this very web site, it appears, all Republicans are bad, evil people. Allow me to provide a moment of honest centrist thought here:

The Republican Party is the only party capable of saving us from Bush.

The Democrats are too fractured right now to put up a real fight. Are there lots of Republican leaders in need of a major "smack-down"? Sure. Is the Republican Party drunk on power? No doubt. But let me tell you something, the real Republican Party isn't the crazy bat-shit keep brain-dead Terry Schiavo on life support crowd. The real Republican party is the one in power and wants it to stay that way. The real Republican Party is the one that hates to spend money, period. And what do the real Republicans see today? They see a President with 40% (or lower) approval ratings spending money like a drunken teenager on a war we can't win. They see a President wasting America's capital abroad when it's clearly needed at home. They see a President who honestly believes he talks to Jesus embarrassing them EVERY TIME HE OPENS HIS DAMN YAPPER.

They won't stand for it. There are enough real Republicans left in the Republican Party that I foresee a very odd marriage forthcoming. The real fiscal conservatives are going to jump ship and join the Democrats in opposing Bush. The Democrats will welcome anyone anti-Bush these days and will, no doubt, find a way to waste this opportunity to grow their party. But regardless of how inept the Democrats are likely to be, this will be a good thing for the American People. It will prove, once again, that our democracy is capable of surviving even the most idiotic of leaders. You watch, the Republican Party is about to resurface and the folks that put Reagan in office (many of whom I don't agree with much either) are going to dismiss this President with almost the same vigor. Am I predicting Bush will get impeached? No, I'm not. But I do believe he'll become almost powerless in the face of the new coalition you'll begin to see forming in the houses of Congress. The real Republicans need the Democrats now and the Democrats need anyone they can get.

We live in interesting times.
