NMF, NMP
Not My Fault, Not My Problem.
Growing up with two sisters, this philosophy became a way of life. Something in the house is broken... NMF, NMP! The dog ate my sister's dinner off the table, NMF, NMP! Maybe not the most Christian way to approach life but in most cases, you end up in the same place.
NMF, NMP Defined: The philosophy that when something isn't obviously RIGHT or WRONG, you go with this basic rule of thumb. It often means "mind your own business" or "shut the hell up." For example, unless I'm banging the woman next door, it isn't something I should worry about when her marriage breaks up. NMF, NMP!
So what? So, I wish our President was forced to live by this rule. Because the corollary to this rule is: IMF, IMP! (Is my fault, is my problem.)
See, IMF, IMP would mean Bush would be forced to suffer for the problems his administration has created. Instead of the parents out there contributing their sons and daughters to the meat-grinder in Iraq, Bush would be losing family and friends. He'd have to answer for his failures and his immoral decisions. He'd be accountable for all of the death, the misery, the heartbreak he's caused. And this wouldn't just apply to Iraq but his arrogant tax grab for the wealthy would backfire and he'd lose everything to a fluke stock-market fluctuation. His position on stem cells would mean he or someone he loves would become afflicted by a debilitating disease that could have been treated by the same doctors he disarmed. Etc...
I suppose that's why I'm happy I believe in heaven and hell. Because, at the end of the day, we all get judged by how we lived and whether we took responsibility for our errors, our failings, the way our decisions hurt others. I'll leave it up to the big guy to decide this one. In the meantime, I'm just going to stick with NMF, NMP and hope it gets me to a better place than W ends up.
PS. Sorry I've been MIA for a while. Things have been a bit hectic. Nothing bad, in fact my son turned 7 yesterday so it's all good and fun, just busy!
