The Bush Economy

With all the crowing TeamBush is doing these days, you'd think the economy was going gangbusters. Well, let's take a look, shall we? A good economy produces jobs. Where are we now as compared to when El W took office? (And I mean took!)

Unemployment Rate:
December, 2000 4.0%
July, 2005 5.0%

Hmmm... Well, OK, maybe that's just a fluke. I mean, maybe in a good economy less people want to work because they're just so damn wealthy! So, how about that? In a good economy, we really ought to see some big gains in the stock market! Let's take a look at that chart...

Well dang! I think this shows that the DOW seems to be lower now than when Shrub took office. If all these unemployed folks were getting wealthy, it must not be from the stock market. Now that's odd. (Interesting side note: Historically, since WW2, the DOW grows about twice as fast with a Democrat in the Whitehouse. 8% vs. 4%.)

Well, maybe we're not necessarily earning more; maybe things are just getting cheaper! See, if I have the same income and I have to spend less to buy stuff, I'm much better off! Let's see, what does pretty much everyone use so we can do a fair comparison? Hey, I've got it, everyone uses gasoline! Even if you don't own a car you still rely on gasoline to get the things you buy to the places you buy them. I'll bet this graph will show the booming economy...

Ummmmm.... Shoot, that didn't work out either. It seems the price of gas has about doubled during the Bush Dictatorship. Where have things gotten better?

Poverty? No...
Crime? No...
The National Debt...

December, 2000 --- $5,674,178,209,886.86
July, 2005 --- $7,883,572,311,422.86

Well, heck, something must have improved! Real wages? Well, they have increased but they're nothing to brag about compared to the previous 8 years. This minor gain has barely kept up with inflation.

So, who exactly are they talking about up there in the Whitehouse? Could it be these guys?

Yep, the economy is pretty good for these guys. At least the Bush Administration isn't lying.
