Rehnquist Waffles on Death

. . . Moderates bummed . . .

Announcing he wasn't quite ready to die and/or retire, Justice Rehnquist made it all but certain Bush would nominate a hardline right-wing nut to fill the current vacancy on the court. Up until now, I'd been convinced that with his poll numbers in the toilet, the war going poorly and the Rove scandal brewing, we'd see Bush nominate a moderate this time around and then fill the Rehnquist vacancy with some red meat for his base... But such is life.

Civil liberties and womens rights are about to take a torpedo or two. Stay tuned.
