Of All the Things Bush is Wrong About...

This issue, stem cell research, is right up there. Now, it seems, there are Republicans who agree. One very important one, at least, Bill Frist. I hope this is a good sign that Bush and the right wing are losing some of the iron fisted control of the Republican Party they've had since 9/11. It seems any time since then, whenever Bush snapped his fingers, his party lined up with him regardless of whatever idiotic stance he took. Well, I disagree with Frist on a great many things but I have to give him credit here. (Link)

"The limitations put in place in 2001 will, over time, slow our ability to bring potential new treatments for certain diseases,'' Frist, a heart and lung surgeon, said in a speech on the Senate floor. "Therefore, I believe the president's policy should be modified.''

Bravo Bill.

UPDATE: Take a look at what the loony Christian Coalition / Moral Majority crowd is already saying about this. (Link) I'm still stunned.

"If there are embryos that have been created that are not being used," Earll says, "they need to either be implanted by their genetic mother or they need to be allowed to be adopted. This is a direct result of the irresponsible use of [reproductive] technology. The cow is out of the barn, and now we're chasing the cow." - Carrie Gordon Earll, senior bioethics policy analyst for Focus on the Family

So, let me get this straight... Women who otherwise would be unable to conceive LIFE and go through the effort and cost of fertilization are either forced to implant all of the embryos or they're EVIL? What a sick bunch of wackos the Bush crowd attracts. Hey, maybe each one of these "moral" women should adopt a frozen embryo and bring it to term. Raise it as your own Carrie! Come on, your uterus is public domain in your world anyway!
